Best New Artists for Summer 2018

Music is essential to most of our lives, and a new artist can set the tone for an entire season. Whether you are going to the beach, riding around town with some friends, or planning a backyard bash, music is always an important part of the best memories. Here are the newest artists to listen to this summer:
MorMor
Launching his career from Toronto, Seth Nyquist is a 26-year-old artist who was born and raised in the center of Canada’s most populated city, and the experience has shaped his music in amazing ways. Mixing elements of pop with psychedelic vocals and a strong backbeat, he writes, records, and produces every sound within his music. The result gives listeners a glimpse into the deepest corners of Nyquist’s imagination and allows them to explore a unique world of sounds that they have never heard before. Despite the nuance of MorMor, the songs still sound and feel familiar.
Madison McFerrin
If you are a fan of strong, female vocals, then you must give Midson McFerrin’s debut EP a listen. Somewhat infamous for a botched performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” during a televised Hillary Clinton campaign rally in 2016, McFerrin seems determined to prove critics wrong by releasing a handful of songs that are completely a cappella. After listening through her collection, we are convinced that the Brooklyn singer-songwriter is destined for more attention in the near future.
Steve Lacy
If you think blurring the lines between rock, pop, and R&B seems like an impossible task, then you haven’t heard the infectious sound collection released under the title “Steve Lacy’s Demo.” The 18-year-old musician has proven that low budgets and a lack of experience on stage do not prevent someone from making incredible tunes. Featuring low-fi sounds and lots of guitar, his sound is a perfect match for his powerful vocals. He’s already been recognized by the likes of Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, and The Internet, but his debut solo release is sure to take him to the next level.
Mija
From fashion to music, Mija has it going on. Her music is great for upbeat, energetic moments of excitement, like dancing and partying. Her vocals are lighthearted but still thought-provoking. Skrillex is credited with “discovering” this talented musician, but she actually booked him in 2010 for a performance in Phoenix, where she grew up.
Cuco
This 19-year-old artist from Los Angelino is both a producer and a musician. His lyrics bounce back and forth between English and Spanish phrases, and the vocals complement the heavy synthesizer sounds that make up his sound.
Ravyn Lenae
Getting signed to Atlantic Records is no easy feat, but Ravyn was signed and working on her first album by the time she was a senior in high school. Her music career was launched after the release of her debut EP “Moon Shoes,” and since then, her rise to the top is only a matter of time. Her new EP “Crush” was released earlier this year, and it is extraordinary.
