Most Anticipated Movies of April 2018
The weather might be warming up in some parts of the country as winter ends and spring arrives, but that doesn’t mean people are ready to spend every waking second outdoors under the sun. And while we haven’t quite made it to the summer blockbuster season yet, there are still a number of great movies gracing the silver screen this April. From action-packed thrillers to hilarious comedies, and even another Marvel movie, moviegoers of all ages and tastes have an excuse to head to the movie theaters in April. Here are some of the most anticipated movies coming this month.
You Were Never Really Here (April 6)
The latest movie from writer/director Lynne Ramsay (We Need to Talk About Kevin) and starring Joaquin Phoenix made a big splash at last year’s Cannes Film Festival winning both Best Screenplay and Best Actor. This revenge thriller follows Joe, a hired killer with an affinity for unleashing a hammer on his unsuspected victims, as he races against the clock to save a senator’s young daughter from the horrors of prostitution following a kidnapping. If the trailer gives us any indication of the full-length movie, it’s sure to be a thrilling and brutal revenge story no matter the cost.
The New Mutants (April 13)
It doesn’t take a comic book nerd to recognize superhero movies like Captain America, Spiderman, and Avengers, but there’s a whole other world of comics and characters that deserve attention as well. That’s where The New Mutants comes in. After last year’s success with Logan, the next installment, loosely based on a Marvel Comics story by Chris Claremony and Bill Sienkiewicz, is an offshoot of the much more recognizable X-Men franchise but is set inside a mental institution and feels much more like a horror movie. Featuring a great cast including Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams and The Witch’s Anya Taylor-Joy, The New Mutants is poised to make a big splash.
Super Troopers 2 (April 20)
It’s been 17 years since the sketch comedy group Broken Lizard first introduced the world to the wildest and most irreverent group of Vermont State Troopers in movie history while also canonizing “liter of cola” as an acceptable drink size. And while we’ve seen the Broken Lizard guys in other movies like Beerfest, the hilarious cop movie parody holds a special place in comedy fans’ hearts. With Super Troopers 2, the gang is back, including Director and Lizard co-founder Jay Chandrasekhar as well as the always funny and handsome Rob Lowe.
Avengers Infinity War (April 27)
If The New Mutants is the under-the-radar indie superhero movie of the month, then the most anticipated blockbuster and the self-described “most ambitious crossover event in history” is Avengers Infinity War. As the first of an epic two-film combo, Infinity War brings every existing Marvel Universe story and hero together (including the Guardians of the Galaxy) for a can’t miss movie event everyone will be talking about. If you thought Hollywood couldn’t possibly put out another superhero movie, think again.
