Movies We’re Excited About in 2019
Although 2019 just started, it’s shaping up to be a great year for movies already. If you’re wanting to go to the theatre more this year, you’ve chosen a great year. Here are some movies we are excited about:
What Men Want – Starring Taraji P. Henson and hitting theatres days before Valentine’s on February 8, What Men Want is the story of a sports agent navigating a male-dominated industry. Through an act of either divine providence or punishment, she is able to hear men’s innermost thoughts. What Men Want is a response to the Mel Gibson-Helen Hunt hit What Women Want, with the distinct benefit of not having Mel Gibson in it.
Captain Marvel – Starring Brie Larson, the Captain Marvel trailer went viral in fall of 2018 because it included a clip of Captain Marvel punching an elderly woman in the face. If this clip, albeit out of context, didn’t entice you to catch the premiere on March 8, then we don’t know what will.
Us – From the writer and director of Get Out, we are really excited about Jordan Peele’s next project. The trailer doesn’t explicitly reveal many details of the plot. From what we are able to tell currently, it is about a family who encounters a nightmarish version of themselves. The release date is March 22 and we’re going to make a prediction that Us is going to sell out theatres everywhere.
John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum – If the third installment is anything like the first two, we can’t wait for the gratuitous fight scenes that make us feel like we’re just as lethal as Keanu Reeves. Not for the weak-stomached, the premiere is set for May 17. Also, we heard Anjelica Huston, forever Morticia Addams in our hearts, has a role in the film.
Joker – Have you seen the unsettling images of Joaquin Phoenix with clown makeup on yet? Well, those are likely for Joker, which premieres on October 4. Previously played by Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, and Jared Leto, we are excited to see Joaquin Phoenix’s interpretation of one of DC comic’s most fascinating villians.
Zombieland: Double Tap – About ten years in the making, this is the sequel to Zombieland and has the original cast of Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, and Abigail Breslin. If it’s anything like the first movie, you’ll want to catch it when it releases on October 11.
The Goldfinch – The film adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Donna Tartt will be released on October 11. You have plenty of time to read the book first, which we highly reccommend.
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood – Releasing on October 18, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood is about the beloved Fred Rogers. Tom Hanks plays Mr. Rogers. Don’t show up to this premiere expecting to stay composed. You’re going to cry.
Frozen 2 – If you have kids, mark November 22nd on your calendar. With the same cast as the first movie, Frozen 2 is sure to be fun. Even if you don’t have kids, don’t act like you’re not curious about what the next “Let It Go” will be.
In addition to these, we’re hopeful but nervous about the Downton Abbey film, the Pet Sematary remake, and the Elton John biopic Rocketman. Let us know which films you’re looking forward to in 2019!
