Pixar Sequels Ranked

Pixar has been making movies that make us laugh and bring us to tears for over twenty years. After the recent release of Incredibles 2, we took a walk down memory lane and looked at all of Pixar’s sequels. Check out our ranking to see where Pixar’s newest sequel fits among them.
7. Cars 3
We don’t mean to say that this movie is awful, but Cars 3 does little to dazzle us. The movie features Lightning McQueen facing off against rivals that are much the same as in the first two movies. Many other characters remain stagnant and unchanging. Lightning McQueen’s attitude is still childish and vane, even after three adventures. The movie goes how we expect it will, and doesn’t add to the world of Cars.
6. Monster’s University
The only original thing about Monster’s University is that it’s Pixar’s only prequel. The story tells us how Mike and Sully met in college. In all honesty, this story could have been told in about five minutes, as it offers the same friend dynamic as seen in Monsters Inc. Although it lacks originality, there are a couple of funny moments. The hijinks of college in Monster’s University are entertaining, but not particularly memorable.
5. Cars 2
We know we’re giving the Cars franchise a hard time here. The first Cars was great. Cars 2 was ambitious, but it missed the mark. We all fell in love with Mater in the first movie, but we liked him better as a sidekick. Mater’s redneck remarks become a bit exhausting after two hours. Cars 2 gets credit for trying something outside the box, but the story doesn’t captivate us like other Pixar movies.
4. Finding Dory
Coming a full 13 years after Finding Nemo, Finding Dory was the sequel that we didn’t know we wanted. The movie focuses on Dory as she searches for her parents and her own place in society. The film does a fantastic job of expanding on the interesting character that we met in Finding Nemo. The themes in this story are thoughtful and resonate with people of all ages.
3. Incredibles 2
Pixar’s newest sequel takes third place. Since this sequel has been 14 years coming, many thought that the movie would feature a very grown-up version of the Incredibles family. The opening scene reveals that this movie actually takes place the very next day after the first Incredibles ends, and this had the entire theater rolling in laughter. The movie features Mr. Incredible taking care of the family while the Mrs. leaves to fight crime. Hilarious home antics and intense fighting scenes ensue. As a bonus, the score is catchy and fun, the best that Pixar has put out in recent memory.
2. Toy Story 2
The second installment of Toy Story is a fantastic continuation of the first. The story adds a couple of delightful characters that change the dynamics of the entire toy crew. Jessie is a fantastic female lead, and her “When She Loved Me” flashback had all of us crying our eyes out. Buzz and Woody are constantly bickering, yet work great together. They are the funniest team in the Pixar universe.
1. Toy Story 3
Toy Story is Pixar’s greatest achievement to date. The third installment offers a totally new plot with interesting and, for the first time, evil toys. In the end, the whole Toy Story gang has found a new life for themselves, a beautiful close to the series after three hilarious and heartwarming adventures.
