Remembering Warped Tour
It’s been a year since the final full run of the Vans Warped Tour. 2018 was the last year that a full tour took place. This year there was the 25th anniversary of the tour, so there was a limited run of three shows in Cleveland, Ohio, Atlantic City, New Jersey, and in Mountain View, California.
This is a bittersweet moment for many music lovers out there. Artists like My Chemical Romance, Blink-182, and Fall Out Boy were first thrust into the spotlight on the Vans Warped Tour. If you’re feeling a bit nostalgic, here are some things we all loved about Warped Tour that were sorely missed this year.
Asking our parents for a ride.
Your favorite pop-punk band was performing, so obviously you had to go. And if you weren’t lucky enough to have an older sibling that was planning on going, you had to ask your mom to drive you to the show. Bonus points are awarded for every friend that you pile up in the minivan.
Picking out the perfect outfit.
You didn’t care if it was 100 degrees in Dallas, Texas. You knew your checkered sneakers, skinny jeans, and beanie were going to make you stand out in the crowd.
You were surprised to see a bunch of punk guys walking around shirtless when you first walked in, but you quickly realized they had the right idea.
Planning out the shows you wanted to see.
You might as well have been an events coordinator with all the effort you put into creating the perfect lineup! You and your friends all stood in a circle and carefully illustrated who was going to see what band at what time, and who was going to save a spot for whom in the merch line.
Of course, you probably didn’t account for the fact that the venue was massive and ended up arriving late or leaving early. The best thing you can ever hope for is your two favorite bands performing on stages right next to each other.
Not bringing a big enough backpack.
It’s a rite of passage to go to the last show of the night carrying roughly five shirts, a vinyl record, and (hopefully) a signed poster. You have the free stickers stuffed in your pocket but you’re still totally over-encumbered.
You told yourself you’d bring a backpack next year, but it wasn’t enough. It never is.
Your mom gave you twenty dollars and told you to spend it carefully. Of course, this meant you weighed your options between a band shirt and their newest album on vinyl.
You didn’t want to waste time and money getting food and water! Instead, you either stood in line for the one water fountain in the entire venue or stuck your head in the questionable bathroom sinks. Hopefully, you had one responsible friend who would share their bottle with you. Just kidding! You all suffered the heat together and came out the other side closer than ever.
