Top Three Marvel Movies
If you love going to the movies as much as we do, you already know that there is no shortage of Marvel movies that have been released within the last decade or so. Whether you welcome the Marvel resurgence with open arms or are ready for the phase to pass, we’re recapping our favorite three films from this well-loved comic universe.
The success of Iron Man in 2008 bears most of the responsibility for catapulting the Marvel universe into the center of the cultural conversation. Grossing $318,298,180 in U.S. box offices, the film rebooted Robert Downey Junior’s acting career and made Tony Stark/Iron Man into a hero as beloved as other well-known Marvel characters like Wolverine, Spiderman, and Thor.
Iron Man introduces us to Tony Stark and the origin story of Iron Man. We’re introduced to Tony Stark as an American arms dealer. In the initial moments of the film, Stark, while on business in the Middle East, is captured and held prisoner. Using his knowledge and ingenuity, Stark fashions a specialized magnet to keep shrapnel lodged in his body from piercing his heart. Those holding him captive attempt to force him to build them a weapon.
Instead, he builds a proto-Iron Man suit and escapes. Once Stark is back to safety, he refines the Iron Man suit and uses it to fight against a plot which could destroy the world. Impressed with what he accomplishes, Nick Fury recruits Stark to join the Avengers.
Avengers: Infinity War
Avengers: Infinity War brings a mass of Marvel heroes to fight off the formidable Thanos. Grossing $664,987,816 at the box office, the film follows Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Captain America, Black Widow, War Machine, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, and Black Panther along with allies as they fight to keep Thanos from sowing mass destruction with the infinity stones. The film ends in Thanos believing he is successful in his ultimate mission of mass destruction. However, Nick Fury sends a message out to Captain Marvel, which sets the stage for the sequel and, hopefully, some redemption.
Grossing $501,105,037 at the box office, Black Panther was a widely anticipated film. With an overwhelmingly talented cast including Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Daniel Kaluuya, Sterling K. Brown, Angela Bassett, and Forest Whitaker, the caliber of acting in the movie is undeniable.
The story follows T’Challa as he becomes king of Wakanda. On the heels of his father’s assassination, T’Challa must prove his place as king as well as fight off enemies who seek to steal Wakanda’s most treasured resource, Vibranium.
The film garnered Academy Awards for Best Original Musical Score, Best Costume Design, and Best Production Design and also won numerous NAACP Image Awards and recognition from many other organizations.
