Weirdest Fashion Statements (So Far) of 2018
If you’re looking for some unique fashion inspiration or maybe a good laugh, you don’t have to look much further than New York Fashion Week 2018 or the world-famous Coachella Music Festival.
While Beyoncé slayed on the Coachella stage, festival goers were expressing their inner “Jem” (who didn’t love that 80’s cartoon?). With paint and bling on their face, music lovers (including celebrities Vanessa Hudgens and Rydel Lynch) embellished their appearance with jewels and colorful makeup.
Another craze at Coachella this year was crocheted clothes. After all, it would not be the popular hipster festival that it is without this bohemian bend. Some celebs wearing this boho-chic look were Jasmine Tooks in her full-length crochet pants and Selena Gomez in a beautiful and revealing crochet top.
Fringe jackets and cowgirl boots were seen all throughout the crowd as well. This country-infused fashion statement could be found throughout the hip and lively crowd.
Showing up as twinsies was super cool this year as well. Men and women alike dressed in matching shirts, shorts, glasses, and hats as they jaunted from stage to stage, absorbing the glorious vibes everyone expects at such a festival.
Floral apparel isn’t just limited to women these days. Checking out the fashion at Coachella this year meant witnessing men and women alike adorning floral shirts, shorts, kimonos, and gowns. Music enthusiasts were authentic and true to themselves as they allowed their ensemble to bloom with bright colors.
Prior to Coachella, clothing enthusiasts were able to take in some awesomely strange fashion fads at New York Fashion Week in February of this year. With self-expression and art leading the way, New York Fashion Week 2018 made plenty of statements. Our fashion imagination would never evolve if no designers ever pushed the fashion boundaries. Clothing designers and trendsetters won’t allow for everything we wear to maintain a traditional and conventional look.
Anyone familiar with Gucci’s fashion week presentations understands that they’re in for some eye-opening and entertaining productions. This year was no exception. The Gucci crowd got to witness models strutting the runway carrying human heads, wearing third eyes, and lugging baby dragons. Just a guess, but don’t be surprised if you see some crazy animal-like handbags in the fall.
At Ka Wa Key’s show, models could be seen taking on the runway barefoot, wholly covered in sweaters and finishing the outfit with airy, celestial pants. Ready-to-wear may be a stretch for these latest designer trends, but they’re sure to inspire some comfy clothing in the coming seasons.
Fifty Shades of Grey fans weren’t disappointed by the Dominatrix style revealed at the Devamp Couture show. Models at this presentation hit the catwalk with saucy attitudes and quite revealing S&M-style garments. Black was the most popular color at Devamp’s fashion show, with little pops of metallic accents seen here and there. I’m not sure where this leads our teenagers as fashion trends get wilder and wilder, but if you’re into bondage-style apparel, we’ve found the designer for you that won’t disappoint.
Weird fashion is off to an entertaining start in 2018. We can’t wait to see what designers will show us next or which celebrities will sport the most eccentric get-ups.
