What to Expect for the 2020 Super Bowl Halftime Show
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard that Jennifer Lopez and Shakira will be performing at the Super Bowl in 2020 during the iconic halftime show. Fans are beyond excited to see the two link up for this performance — especially because the two are some of the most famous Latina pop stars of all time.
Keep reading to learn more about how this legendary collaboration came to be. And make sure to tune in to the Super Bowl — and more importantly the half-time performance — on February 2nd, 2020.
The Guidance of …Jay-Z?
Many people probably wouldn’t have put Jay-Z and the two Latina pop stars together, but the Brooklyn rapper was recently hired by the National Football League to serve as a “live music entertainment strategist.” Jay-Z and his sports and entertainment company — Roc Nation — will advise the NFL about the entertainment aspects of all their live events, which, of course, includes the Super Bowl Halftime show.
For a bit of background context, fans were not too happy about Jay-Z’s new role. Previously, the rapper had been critical of the NFL due to their criticism of Colin Kaepernick’s protests in which he took a knee when the national anthem was played at games to protest the treatment of African American men by police. Many fans saw Jay-Z collaborating with the very organization he used to criticize to be hypocritical and many also accused Jay-Z of selling out.
No matter how you feel about Jay-Z and his job as a live music entertainment strategist, he still had a hand at recruiting Shakira and J-Lo as next year’s halftime performers.
J-Lo’s Poker Face
As they always do, rumors began circulating before the big announcement that J-Lo would be performing at the Super Bowl in 2020. When questioned about whether or not she would be taking the stage during half-time, J-Lo definitely had her poker face on and ready. She simply said, “I can’t say I wouldn’t love it” to both Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest.
This has certainly been a big year for “Jenny from the Block,” who starred in the film Hustlers to widespread acclaim. Some even suggested that she may win an Oscar for her performance! Certainly those great acting skills came into great use while attempting to dispel rumors about her upcoming performance.
Of course, J-Lo is only one part of the equation. Colombian music legend Shakira will be joining her during the Super Bowl performance. Fans are excited about Shakira’s appearance as she is known for her beyond entertaining live performances.
The Halftime show will be a great opportunity for the star to re-introduce herself to the world stage. The star took a hiatus from music before releasing her 2017 album El Dorado, and this show will help further that comeback she made two years ago.
And fun fact — the Super Bowl in 2020 is on Shakira’s birthday — February 2nd! What amazing birthday plans.
