What’s Disney+ Slated to Stream?
Disney’s streaming service Disney+, previously known as Disney Play, will be available later this year after having undergone a serious makeover. While many of us may associate Disney primarily with animated feature films, the truth is that Disney owns so much more, from Star Wars and Marvel to Pixar, 21st Century Fox, and even ESPN. We’re excited to take advantage of all that the Disney+ streaming service has in store, including:
Upon the Disney+ launch, feature films including Star Wars Episode I-III, Episode VII-IX and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be available to view. The original Star Wars trilogy is not scheduled to be in their catalog, so borrow these VHSs from your uncle if you planning on marathoning from start to finish. In addition to these films, Disney+ is also offering the live action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian. Starring Jon Favreau, the series follows a Mandalorian exploring the Galaxy in the period of time following the fall of the Empire. As proud Star Wars fans, we will most definitely be tuning in.
Disney+ will also boast a comprehensive collection of Marvel Cinematic Universe movies and content. At the time of the streaming service’s launch, the following Marvel movies will be available: Captain Marvel, Iron Man, Iron Man 3, and Thor: The Dark World. Within the year these Marvel titles will be released: Ant-Man and the Wasp, Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Infinity War, Black Panther, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, Iron Man 2, and Thor: Ragnarok.
Lastly, and most importantly, Disney+ is producing a couple of Marvel series. These shows include the actual stars of MCU feature films like Elizabeth Olson, Paul Bettany, and Tom Hiddleston. WandaVision stars Olson and Bettany as the Scarlet Witch and The Vision. Hiddleston, of course, is contracted to star in a series about our favorite antagonist, Loki. These original Marvel shows are exclusive to Disney and are, without a doubt, an impressive selling point for the service as a whole.
Continuing the theme of creating shows about some of our favorite movies, the Disney+ service will feature a Monsters Inc original series titled Monsters at Work. Yes, this series will star Billy Crystal and John Goodman as Mike and Sully. In addition to creating a series based off of popular movies, Disney+ is currently creating a feature film continuation of the popular animated series Phineas and Ferb. Pixar has a long-standing tradition of featuring animated shorts before their feature films and Disney+ is planning on having a dedicated show for these shorts called SparkShorts.
A small sample of the classic animated films that will be available include: 101 Dalmatians, Aladdin, Bambi, Bolt, Cinderella, The Emperor’s New Groove, Frozen, Hercules, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Moana, Peter Pan, The Sword in the Stone, Tangled, and Zootopia.
In addition to Star Wars, Marvel, and the classic animations that made Disney a household name, Disney+ will offer a wide range of high definition National Geographic content, Disney channel originals, and live action movies. This is just a small sampling of the full catalog, so be sure to check in with the service when it launches!
